Introduction: Master the Art of SHR Hair Removal: Expert Tips for Flawless Results

If you’re in Singapore and dreaming of achieving silky smooth, hair-free skin, you’re likely considering SHR (Super Hair Removal). This revolutionary technology has taken the beauty industry by storm with its promise of painless and permanent hair removal. But with so many beauty salons offering this service, how do you navigate this crowded landscape to find the right one?

Finding the Right Treatment Center

The first step in your journey is to do your homework. In the age of information, customer reviews and ratings are your best friends. Look for salons that not only have positive reviews but also a solid reputation for customer service and results.

Experience matters when it comes to SHR. Therapists who have performed numerous SHR treatments will have a better understanding of how to adjust the procedure to suit different skin types and hair densities. They’ll also be more adept at ensuring the treatment is as comfortable and effective as possible.

While it might be tempting to opt for the cheapest option available, remember that when it comes to beauty treatments, you often get what you pay for. Cheap doesn’t always mean good. Quality should be your top priority when it comes to your skin. After all, SHR is a procedure that uses intense light to destroy hair follicles. You want to ensure that the procedure is performed correctly and safely.

Nevertheless, how can you fully maximise your SHR hair removal treatment to achieve the best possible results? Based on various scientific journals on SHR hair removal technology and expert panel discussions, we share with you 7 expert tips for getting the best results from your SHR hair removal treatment.

1. Sun Exposure and SHR: Why It’s Crucial to Stay Shaded

By exposing your skin to the sun, you would be over-stressing your skin, and this may lead to skin complications such as hyper-pigmentation

Avoid Full Sun Exposure

We cannot stress this enough to our valued customers: Always avoid full sun exposure to the treated area, both before and after undergoing SHR, IPL, or laser hair removal treatment. This is a crucial part of the process that ensures the effectiveness of the treatment and the health of your skin.

Potential Skin Complications

Sun exposure can cause your skin to tan, which can affect the contrast between your hair and skin, making the treatment less effective. Moreover, post-treatment sun exposure can lead to complications such as hyperpigmentation, as your skin is more sensitive after the procedure.

Sun Protection Tips

We understand the temptation to hit the beach and flaunt your newly smooth and hair-free skin. However, we strongly advise against this. While basking in the sun might seem like a great idea, it can potentially reverse the benefits of your treatment and harm your skin.

Instead, we recommend using a high SPF sunscreen and covering the treated area when you’re out in the sun. This will not only protect your skin but also ensure the longevity of your treatment results. Remember, your skin’s health and safety should always come first! So, let’s keep that beach trip on hold until your skin is fully ready to enjoy the sun safely.

Even though it’s suggested that you simply stop plucking and waxing the realm being treated, shaving it 24 to 48 hours prior your appointment is crucial

2. Pre-Treatment Prep: The Importance of Shaving Before SHR

The Importance of Shaving Before SHR Treatment

Forget what you’ve heard from the grapevine – you do need to shave before your SHR treatment. It’s not just about aesthetics, it’s about science! By shaving, you’re allowing the SHR energy to be fully absorbed by the hair follicles, thereby improving the effectiveness of the treatment. So, grab that razor and get ready to maximise your results!

Timing and Difficult-to-Reach Areas

When should you shave? Ideally, a day before treatment. Most customers find it convenient to do so in the evening prior to their treatment. But let’s face it, there are always those tricky, hard-to-reach areas like the back and the private areas. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

The anagen stage is also the only point where the hair follicle remains attached to the bulb and the laser’s light can disrupt future growth properly.

3. Timing is Key: Understanding Hair Growth Cycles in SHR

Common Misconception About Hair Removal

Let’s dive right in and tackle one of the most prevalent misconceptions about hair removal. It’s a myth that’s been circulating for quite some time, and it’s high time we put it to rest. Many customers, filled with anticipation and excitement, step into their first session with the belief that their hairs will cease to grow instantly after the treatment. This notion, while understandable, is unfortunately not based on fact.

Hair removal, particularly when using advanced methods such as SHR (Super Hair Removal), is a process. It’s not an instantaneous solution, but rather a gradual one that requires patience and understanding. The belief that hair growth will stop immediately after the first session is a common misunderstanding. This misconception may stem from the immediate visual difference that customers notice post-treatment. However, it’s essential to understand that this is part of the process and not the final result.

Hair Growth Cycles and Regeneration

Hair growth isn’t a uniform process. Instead, each hair follicle operates independently and goes through different stages of growth and rest. This means that while one hair follicle might be in the active growth phase (anagen), another could be in the resting phase (telogen).

When one hair follicle dies, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of hair growth in that area. There might be another follicle next to it that may regenerate itself. This is a natural part of the hair growth cycle and is one of the reasons why hair removal treatments often require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

At any given time, approximately 30 to 60 percent of your hair is in the anagen (growth) stage. This is the stage where the hair is actively growing, and it’s also the stage that laser hair removal treatments target. The reason for this is that the laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which is then transferred to the hair follicle. This process damages the follicle and inhibits its ability to produce new hair.

The hairs that are in the anagen stage at the time of treatment are the ones that will be affected. However, the hairs in the telogen (resting) stage will not be affected because they are not actively growing. These hairs will enter the anagen stage at a later time, which is why follow-up treatments are necessary.

After the treatment, the affected hairs (those that were in the anagen stage during treatment) will shed after a few weeks. This is a normal part of the process and is a sign that the treatment was effective. However, remember that the hairs in the telogen stage during treatment will not be affected, and these will continue to grow until they enter the anagen stage and are targeted by a follow-up treatment.

The Importance of a 28-Day Treatment Schedule

Timing is everything when it comes to hair removal. By the time you go for your next appointment (recommended 28 days later, to coincide with the hair growth cycle), the hairs that were in their growth stage will now be in their dormant or dying stage. This is why we always advise customers to stick to a strict 28-day treatment schedule to see the best results. So mark your calendars and get ready to say goodbye to unwanted hair!

Asian skin types are more likely to develop hyperpigmentation, or permanent darkening of the skin, after laser treatment.

4. Personalized SHR Settings: Tailoring to Your Skin Type

Lasers and Skin Types: A Colourful Spectrum

When it comes to laser hair removal, one size doesn’t fit all. Lasers work differently on light and dark skins, and understanding this is key to achieving optimal results. For those with fair skin, falling under Type 1, 2, and 3 on the Fitzpatrick scale, the treatment responds best to a shorter wavelength of 755 nanometers. This wavelength is not only gentle on the skin but also effective on light hair. So, if you’re a fair-skinned beauty, this is the wavelength that will help you bid adieu to unwanted hair!

Tailored Treatment for Darker Skin Types

On the flip side, people with darker skin tones, categorised as Type 4, 5, and 6 (with Type 4 typically representing Indian skin types, and Type 5 and 6 being African American), require a different approach. In this case, we use a wavelength that bypasses the epidermis and has a long pulse like the 1064 nanometers. This wavelength is safe on darker skin types and effectively targets the hair follicles without damaging the skin. So, if you’re blessed with a darker skin tone, worry not! We’ve got a tailored solution just for you.

The Importance of Communication: Share Your Hair and Skin Characteristics

In the quest for smooth, hair-free skin, communication is key. Always share with our consultant your hair type and colour, as well as your skin type and colour. This information allows the consultant to adjust the setting that’s best suited for you, ensuring a personalised and effective treatment. This open communication is crucial to avoid any potential side effects such as hyperpigmentation from the treatment itself. Remember, every skin is unique, and understanding yours is the first step towards that perfect, hair-free skin you’ve been dreaming of!

As laser hair removal destroys the follicle, the hair shaft becomes weak and limp, and with repeated treatments - about 6 to 12 treatments - the follicle dies and no hair grows

5. Patience Pays Off: The Journey to Effective SHR Results

Understanding Laser Hair Removal: More Than Just a Beam of Light

Laser hair removal might sound like a futuristic concept, but it’s a reality in our modern world. It’s a procedure where a specific beam of light bypasses the outer layer of your skin, the epidermis, and targets the hair follicle directly. This process disables the reproductive cycle of the hair without causing any harm to your skin.

As the laser hair removal process destroys the follicle, the hair shaft becomes weak and limp. With repeated treatments – typically about 6 to 12 sessions – the follicle eventually dies and no hair grows back. It’s like hitting the ‘off’ switch on hair growth in the treated areas!

Treatment Frequency for Dense Hair Follicles: Patience is Key

For areas with dense hair follicles, there are more hair follicles to treat. This means more treatments are necessary to target all hair follicles, each of which may be in varying stages of the hair growth cycle. Based on our extensive experience, facial hair and hair in the private areas typically require 12 or more treatments to fully stop hair growth. It’s a journey, but the results are well worth the wait!

Considerations for Sensitive Skin: Gentle Yet Effective

If you have sensitive skin, fear not! Laser hair removal can still be a viable option for you. Start with a lighter energy setting for your treatments. While this may mean that you require more sessions, it will help to prevent any undesirable side effects. It’s all about finding the right balance for your unique skin type. After all, the goal is not just hair-free skin, but also healthy, happy skin!

6. Enhancing Skin Health Post-SHR: Whitening and Hydration Tips

So, you’ve taken the leap and embarked on your journey to silky smooth skin with SHR (Super Hair Removal). But what about aftercare? How do you ensure that your skin remains not just hair-free, but also healthy and glowing post-treatment?

If you’re grappling with hyperpigmentation issues, a common concern particularly in the underarm areas or the private regions, we’ve got just the solution for you – our PTT with AfterGlow.

PTT, or Post-Treatment Therapy, is designed to further enhance the tone and suppleness of your treated skin. It’s like the cherry on top of your SHR treatment, ensuring that your skin doesn’t just feel good, but looks good too!

With PTT, you have two fantastic options to choose from. If you’re dealing with hyperpigmented or darkened skin, our Whitening Therapy is your go-to. It’s designed to gently lighten the skin, reducing the appearance of dark spots and giving you an even skin tone.

On the other hand, if your skin is feeling a little worse for wear after the harsh SHR energy rays, our Hydrating Therapy is here to save the day. It provides accelerated skin repair, replenishing your skin’s natural moisture and leaving it feeling soft, supple, and refreshed.

And the icing on the cake? Our AfterGlow™ red light treatment. This innovative treatment uses red light therapy to repair and rejuvenate your treated skin, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. It’s the perfect way to end your SHR journey, leaving your skin not just hair-free, but also radiant and glowing.

7. Choosing the Right Provider: The Value of Lifetime Coverage

Lifetime Maintain Mode

While SHR hair removal treatment helps to permanently remove hair after 8 to 12 sessions, we have a small number of customers that see hair growth in specific areas after some time has passed. This could be due to their genetics (specifically hair gene Lhx2). We felt that it is not fair for customers to pay a full price again to treat the area again. Our proposed solution: a Lifetime Maintain Mode for these customers. This Lifetime plan is unique to Wellaholic, and we have not seen any other providers able to offer this to their customers.

If you qualify for Lifetime Maintain Mode, you get to enjoy >50% discount off per-session SHR hair removal treatment rates for the rest of your lifetime! This is our way to taking care of customers who might have completed the SHR hair removal regime but find hairs growing back again some time in the future. With this Lifetime Maintain Mode, you will never have to pay full retail prices for maintenance treatments with Wellaholic!
